"DANCES OF ECSTASY" is an evocative documentary that explores how different communities around the world connect with a spiritual dimension through dance and rhythm. In these rituals, Whirling Dervishes from Turkey, Orisha priestesses from Nigeria, Shaman healers from the Kalahari, and dancers in a Gabrielle Roth workshop in New York, pulse to the same beat as thousands of young people at an all night techno dance party in an Australian forest. DANCES of ECSTASY celebrates the universal experience where rhythm and dance unite us. "DANCES OF ECSTASY" is an innovative documentary blending exciting dance rituals, evocative imagery, interviews and a spellbinding global music soundtrack. Director Michelle Mahrer is an award winning filmmaker from Australia. She specializes in films about dance and music, which include television documentaries, dance films choreographed specifically for the camera and music videos. Award winning films include "URBAN CLAN" - a portrait of the Bangarra Dance theatre Australia's leading Aboriginal dance company,"THE BLACK SWAN" a portrait of choreographer Meryl Tankard, "KURTAL SNAKE SPIRIT" about Aboriginal elder Spider and "DVOID" a dance film created with GRAVITY FEED performance group.
